Our True Identity
I love this message, it is very uplifting. I think I listen to this message at least 5 times a week. I must have it memorized by now because the message of this video gives me comfort, and the days I listen to it I feel like I have a better day because I am reminded of who I am and where I come from. Like President Uchtdorf said, "Too many go about their lives thinking they are of little worth, in reality, they are elegant and eternal creatures of infinite value with potential beyond imagination." This message is so powerful and important, not only for the youth, but for everyone. And remember "When you look at your reflection, you will be able to see beyond imperfections and self-doubts and recognize who you truly are: glorious sons and daughters of the Almighty God"
I must be doing something right.

The prettiest cowgirl/pirate/church girl I've ever seen
Reuse and Recycle
I have a younger sister. Her name is Jessica. She's 2 1/2 years younger than me. When we were little girls, Jessica used my hand-me-downs. Not everything though. Maybe the cute dresses, skirts, and shirts- and hopefully the day she gets married she can use my wedding dress.... Anyways when we were little we both "hated" using each others clothes. I remember Jessica complaining about wearing my old stuff and I would complain when she would wear my stuff. It got worse when we were in high school. But then when I got married and moved out, I missed Jessica borrowing my clothes all the time, and I missed it because I borrowed hers too. I think that's a sister rule- using your sister's clothes. Well Sofia doesn't have sisters (0r brothers) so I don't think she will ever live through this, which is sad. Jessica and I look back to those days when we would fight over a shirt or a dress and now we laugh about it. Those were some good times. Sofia is 4 years old and if I was to have a baby next year (I said "if") there would already be a 5 year gap. If she has a sister I don't think Sofia's clothes would be in style by the time her sister can wear them. If she has a brother, there is NO WAY her brother would ever wear her clothes. Luckily, Sofia has cousins. Sofia is 2 1/2 years older than Kamber, Gwen, and Della.
This picture is from Halloween 2009. Sofia had turned two in September. That year I remember I wanted her to be a ladybug. I was so lazy I never made it to Party City on time to get Sofia's ladybug costume. Her size was the first one to sell out. So then I thought- I can just order the costume online. A couple days away from Halloween I went to Wal Mart and most of the costumes were on sale- like 50% off. There was a costume that totally said SOFIA all over it. A Pirate costume. So I bought it and Sofia loved it.

She loved her Pirate costume so much, she wore it everyday for 2 months after Halloween. Our old neighbor Lisa laughed because Sofia refused to wear anything else. She wore her costume to the park, the store, the mall, wiggle worms, her grandma's house, the only place she didn't wear it to was to church. Until one day, we hid her costume (it was time for her to wear something else). And the costume was never used again. Until this Saturday.
My beautiful niece Kamber wore the Pirate costume to her brother's Pirate Party. Seeing Kamber in the pirate costume brought back so many memories of my little Sofia being so cute in her costume. Sofia was 2 years old and Kamber is 18 months.

I know that some of Sofia's things will relive and have different experiences with her cousins. And I love it!

I Love You Like a Love Song Baby!
Sofia loves to sing.
She will sing every Selena Gomez song- We listen to her a lot.
Sofia is a walking Ipod. She knows so many songs, including most of the Primary Songs. Some of her favorite singers are Taylor Swift, Shakira, Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, and Il Volo (can you believe she sings in Italian).
One day Sofia asked if she could be in a community theater play. She's too young. She has to be 7. We have 3 years to prepare her. She will be in dance classes and maybe some theater classes since she loves to act.
This video was taken about a week ago. Sofia's favorite song right now is I Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez. Enjoy!

Sofia's 4 Year Check Up
My daughter was "ready" for her doctor's appointment.
She knew she was going to the doctor, but she didn't know she was getting shots.
She walked in the doctor's office saying hi to everyone- typical Sofia.
We waited for five minutes and then we were called.
Sofia got weighed and measured.
She's 39 inches and 36 pounds.
Then she had to do a visual test.
The doctor's assistant asked her if she wanted to do the pictures or the letters.
Of course my smart little girl said letters.
You should of seen how fast she was saying the letters.
I mean, I know she's a smart girl, but I think at her appointment she was showing off.
Then the letters got small. She confused an "F" with an "R" two times.
Sofia's justification was "The letters got too small and I couldn't see them that good."
The doctor assistant said she did really good, so I'm satisfied.

Before we left, Sofia saw her doctor and she said to him crying "I am NEVER coming back because you guys hurt me and give me shots." Everyone laughed.
Sofia got her sticker and the pain went away.
A little makeover.
Saturday I went to some garage sales.
I wasn't finding anything I really wanted.
Then I found this little table. Price $5.

Then I found this little table. Price $5.
The table needed a little makeover.
After deciding what I wanted to do with it I went to Lowes and Hobby Lobby.
Here's the finished product.
It looks beautiful- my first little makeover!
It seriously took me 1 hour to finish this. I'm proud of myself.

FHE- October 3rd, 2011
We love going to the park.
It's one of Sofia's most favorite thing to do.
When we use to live in our old house we lived 5 minutes away from Discovery Park.
It was convenient being so close, we would go feed the ducks 2-3 times a month.
Sofia loved it.
Then we moved a little further {but not that far} just like 5 miles south.
We didn't go to Discovery Park for almost 5 months.
We played at the parks in our neighborhood.
For Sofia's birthday she had to choose what she wanted to do and she said "I want to go feed the ducks." Well we didn't do that on her birthday, we decided to do it for FHE- It's kinda like a family tradition The Mortensen's have started. Plus this park is across the street from the new Temple {it's under construction but once it's done, it will look BEAUTIFUL}
And every time we drive by it, Sofia sings I Love to See the Temple.

When Sofia was smaller, we had her stand behind the line. She would get SO close to the water it would scare me because I thought she was going to fall in.
Now she's allowed to get closer.
Now she's allowed to get closer.
The ducks like Sofia because she throws big chunks of bread to them.
