Random & Unforgettable

Today will be one of those days I like to tell stories about. And it all started 3 weeks ago. Yes, 3 weeks ago because for the past 3 weeks I've been wanting to go to lunch with The Boss {Brian}. However, I couldn't  because I had signed up to volunteer in Sofia's class. So finally this Thursday I was completely free, so I got ready and went up to the office to go out to lunch with my handsome husband. The timing was perfect and everything. I got there right at 11. Brian and I walked around the new building, talked with his dad for a little bit, and then we headed off to lunch. We went to Rubios. Not my favorite place, but by this time it was already 11:30 and Brian had to be back at work. It's not like I don't like Rubios, I just wanted to go to Olive Garden. Anyways... Hazel cried on our way to Rubios from the office, it's only a 10 minute drive. When we got to Rubios I told Brian to just order for me because I was going to take care of Hazel. I put her car seat on a table and got her out. She stopped crying and started laughing. Big time laughing. Have you heard a 2 month old laughing? It is the cutest thing EVER! I'm just sitting with Hazel when a sweet lady comes our way and says to me "Your adorable baby just made my day. I love her laughs and her smiles." I think Hazel knew what the lady said because she smiled even more. Then the lady pulled out a gift card from her pocket and said "I don't usually do this, but when people make me happy I give them a card." I took the card and said thank you. Then she asked "What's your baby's name?" I said Hazel. Then she said "Thank you for sharing your baby." And then she walked away. Brian came with our drinks and I told him what had happened. Brian said that was nice but random. I know it was random, but it is also unforgettable. That sweet lady has no clue how she made me feel. I've had a smile on my face since this happened. It was a total RAOK (Random Act of Kindness). She has inspired me and now I want to do the same to someone else. It's crazy how a simple smile can change your day. And maybe if I would of gone to lunch with Brian 3 weeks earlier this wouldn't of happened. This lady would of never come my way and I wouldn't feel as inspired as I am today. And hopefully in the future when I tell Hazel this story she will feel inspired to do a RAOK and change someone's day just like that lady changed mine.

Clean Baby

Hazel loves bath time.

She loves it so much, she cries when it's over.

90

Not a lot of people in this world live up to be 90. This weekend we went up to St. Johns to celebrate the life of an amazing man who many people look up to. Great Grandad turned 90 years old! Impressive! Very impressive. When he saw me he knew exactly who I was and remembered me by name. He even asked about my baby. That just showed me that I am loved. Great Grandad has inspired many people and has given his family a great example. Brian and I were so happy we went to Great Grandad's celebration.

Impromptu Hike

This past weekend we went up to St. Johns to celebrate Great Gran dad's 90th birthday {blog post to come soon}. We left Friday right after Sofia got home from school and she was so excited to go on a road trip. We came back Sunday morning and let me just tell you what our plans were-
  1. Wake up, pack, and clean up the cabin
  2. Get ready to go to church in Heber
  3. Stop somewhere to get breakfast
  4. Go to church
  5. Drive back home
And it didn't happen that way. We got up, cleaned up the cabin, packed, got ready for the day and realized we were running short on time. The only one wearing church clothes was Sofia. Brian and I decided just to drive back home and rest all Sunday. And that didn't happen.. What can I say, The Mortensen's happen to be spontaneous.

On the drive back Brian started talking about creeks and hiking. Then he said how we had no rush to get home so we decided to stop at Sharp Creek. Our little stop turned into a hike. It was the best! We enjoyed nature and each others company. We had a wonderful time hiking and we even took turns holding Hazel. This was Hazel's first hike and Sofia's first time "stepping" in a creek.

This picture right here was taken minutes before Sofia "stepped" into the creek. That is the story I will tell you, otherwise Sofia will get mad.

Brian helped Sofia clean her feet. She will tell you how cool she is for "stepping" in a creek.

Hazel enjoyed her first hike :)

We had a wonderful time in our Impromptu Hike. Then we drove home and enjoyed the rest of the day as a family.

Hazel's 2 Month Check Up

Hazel is 2 months old today. My little baby is growing so fast! She had her 2 month check up today and she weights 12 pounds and is 22 inches long!!! She's a little chunker! Hazel has gained almost 6 lbs since birth.. Here is the picture that proves that Hazel weighed 12 pounds at 2 months. And yes, I did get asked if she's wearing 0-3 month old clothes and the answer is yes. Come on people, don't you like a super chunky baby with super tight clothes???

Hazel- She's chunky and she knows it and she's not afraid to show it!

Since I wasn't putting my camera away, she decided to give me a little smile :)

And then she decided to hide her cute face.

Here's the video of her shots. Poor baby :(
 She cried so much.
But then I gave her a bottle and that made her very happy!
Next check up is at 4 months and then she will be getting her ears pierced ;)
